Art in Motion - Part ONE
Dance and photography are two of the highest forms of narrative. Combine them, and you’re given a window that encapsulates action, aesthetics and emotion. My recent session with Alisha Peek was transcendental to say the least, allowing us both to explore our arts freely.
Dance is fluid, photography is still. Together, they provide us with a rare glimpse of the human body in beautiful, unconventional form.
Sessions like this allow me to unleash my fine art-loving self. I’m not just a guy with a camera here: I’m a director, capturing the art of motion with meticulous consideration.
I love the challenges that sessions like this bring. I must choose every moment wisely. Exposure, focus, shutter speed - every variant delivers a unique result.
When photographing dance, my main objective is to channel the excitement and emotion of the art form through the lens. Obviously, this is no easy feat, but the challenge encourages me to explore beyond the very boundaries of my own craft. I love every second of it.
With a background in music, capturing the art of dance speaks to me on a metaphysical level. I am intrinsically drawn to all art forms, and I strive to radiate my passion through the images I produce.
Being a photographer in Washington DC, I encounter so many incredible creatives - people who enable me to infuse my love of fine art with my love of photography. Alisha Peek, the talented dancer captured here, is one of DC’s brightest young creators. It is truly an honor to work with talent of her caliber, and the results have blown my mind.
